I'm amused at the false dichotomy in the previous comments: either it's a real octopus or it's Photoshopped? Come on people, photo-fakery is older than computers! (By the way: octopodes. It's a consonant-stem, not an o-stem like most 'us' words. Others include corpus, corpora and prius, priora, both of which happen to be neuter. Then there are the rarer u-stem nouns like hiatus whose plural merely lengthens the last vowel.)

It’s definitely ‘shopped.

Clues:

No shadowing of the tentacles where there should be, given the studio lighting;
The tents hanging off of the breasts leave no shadow, cause no “drag”, and the left-side (as viewed) tent is warped to make it appear as though it’s following the breast’s curve (look at it under high mag – Gads. I have *no* life…)
Lastly, this thing is sticking to the model, especially on her arms, yet there is no “slime”, no wet-skin shine (on either Ock or Cutie), nor any other mark on her skin to show what is causing such adhesion.

It’s real and ‘shopped to death to make it look “uber-clean”.

My vote, and that of three professional photog friends: Fake.

Is there any chance that there is no octopussy, but an elaborate hair job/wig. That might explain the wrong looking tentacles observed by many.

I agree with Kaze. The octopus on her head is real but not a real octopus and the lower parts are ps’ed. They don’t lay correctly. It could be something to do with Pirates of the Caribbean. Maybe someone trying to do a bizzare fan pic?

I think the real question is: are there ANY “real” pictures anymore. I don’t know of any photographers who do not photoshop EVERY photo they have, so I don’t think that’s a realistic response (ie. that he skin is “flawless”). The question is whether the squid is fake, not whether the photo has been enchanced.

Okay, the Octopus is real, the girl is a fake, and we still don’t have a comprehensive health care plan.

Sorry..I know it makes no sense, but I’ve been working in DC all day, and it sucks the creativity (along with morality and decency) right out of you. I’ll be better tomorrow. Promise.

I’m mildly intrigued about the origins of this pic. It’s the sort of thing I’d only expect to come from Japan.

And I think the octopus is a real prop (but not a real octopus), and that the lower tentacles are probably added in Photoshop. Still, very lovely – albeit odd – photograph.
