B&W photography brings to the fore, the eroticism of the female form.
Color just can not compete.
The negative (film) would look just as erotic.

Sometimes you just forget how erotic a simple Black & White photo can be.

Yup.. that’s a distinguishing feature alright.
Black and white can set moods much better than color. Look at those film noir movies. Or Michael Curtiz’s excellent use of light and shadow in movies like Casablana. It forces your attention to the actors and you simply feel the mood from the lighting.
With that said, B&W does not capture the beauty of a redhead’s bush or the right contrast of lips and nipples the same as color.
