I was going to go into a really long post stating exactly why I used the correct word, even using your own link as a reference. Also, in the process, explain how situational dynamics play a role in overriding grammatical rules. There are exceptions to every rule after all. 1980′s Volvo wagons were great for horizontal fun and noodling. But I don’t think my girlfriend’s mom had that in mind when she picked it out.
1954 Dodge Plymouth for me – you could lay right across the front seat at the drive in or else there was enough room in front of the passenger’s side to kneel down without discomfort if you got hungry. Hmm, similar position to the pic without the steering wheel in the way!
My first car was a 71 Buick Electra…aka a living room on wheels. Primer grey with 2 6′ sofas…I mean bench seats and a 455ci engine that had no power and got 7mi to the gallon…but who cared when gas was $.75 a gallon.
