It’s been a while since I posted any cool aviation pics, so here you go. Enjoy. My favorites are: #9, Blue Angels F/A-18 from Fleet Week; #20, sailplane skimming the water; FWIW, my father flew DC-10s and MD-11s for FedEx (the same plane as #14), |

It has been awhile, but you’ve done nicely in making up for lost time!
As a person who lives in a city that lost 230 homes to forest fires in 2003, I think my fave is the water bomber.
Nothing scarier than a CL-215 coming in over the treetops, belly open to “land” on the lake and then watching it waddle back over the trees full of water…unless it is watching it coming at you, “dripping” large amounts of water onto you. Very painful!
ooohhhhhhhhh, that’s what that is! i was going to post a “what’s happening in that pic” question.
that is cool!
Once saw a C-130 do a JATO take off, damnedest thing I ever saw. My Bird was always the F-4 Phantom, the bumble bee of aircraft. Long time ago in a land far sway. Of course if you want something to save you ass 4 Ah-1′s Cobra and AC-119 Shadow are kind of nice to have in your corner.
For all the elegance and grace and purpose flight is still about altitude and airspeed. Happy landings to all who fly or are flown.
Positive rate of climb ….
I used to get to fly a lot, as a passenger. I love to fly. I remember many years ago when I was living south of Houston, watching the mounted Space Shuttle on a 747 fly so low over my home that you could almost see the crew in the cockpit. A pic like #1 with the Shuttle on it would have been magnificent.
One of my favorites is the T-6/Harvard waterskiing photos some of which can be seen here. http://www.flyinglions.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=38&Itemid=29
They also had an awesome flyover at the Indy 500 this year, two P-51′s, and F-16 and and A-10. Part of the Air Force Heritage Flight. There are a bunch of YouTube vids but I have not seen any really good stills. This one shows the planes, it’s a good snap shot but not really a great photo. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/680063-heritage-flight-flyover-during-national-anthem-indy-500-a.html

love night photography
thanx for sharing
Thank you Nick…. Way back when, I watched a couple of C-130′s do touch and goes at the NAS in San Jose. Very cool.
First time I saw a 747 in a landing pattern. No way anything that damn big can fly that slow!!!
If you think a 747 coming in is slow, watch a C5 Galaxy making an approach, or take off for that matter. Before deploying to Germany in the 80s I was stationed at Fort Dix, right next to McQuire AFB. There were C5s coming and going from their every day. On take off they barely made the trees at the end of the runway. It was hard to believe anything that huge could fly.
I like #26. I can’t tell if the dog is scared or relaxed, but it certainly is not where you would expect to find a dog (resting on a step over the skids).
The dog is a ‘working dog’. It is actually hanging from the handler’s harness. It is trained to accept the flight. Not drugged as it has to work as soon as the chopper gets them on the ground.
Considering the noise methinks the dog is medicated or it would result in a Seamus Romney (standing on a skid in midair, I would expel from one or both orifices simultaneously).
As it was my first aviation model as a boy, the f-111 and the Siddley Hawker Harrier have a soft spot for their gizmoness (‘eres to you Indian Larry) and I saw a video of the JATA C-130′s I think (for a never used Iranian hostage rescue plan) and almost crapped my pants. Those pilots definitely require the jumbo or even cetacean issue athletic supporters. i know everything gets run of the mill eventually but the first time must just be nuts!!!!
PS The National Spelling Bee is on so trying for those word that show me schoolin’
Anyone know the story behind photos #19 & 24?
#19 was the second-worst air show disaster in history. Three Aermacchi MB-339′s flown by Italy’s Frecce Tricolori collided during a closing maneuver at 1988′s Ramstein Air Show. One of the damaged aircraft then crashed into the only MEDEVAC transport at the show; a UH-60 on the ground at the time. The three Italian pilots, the UH-60 pilot, and 66 others died with 346 injured.
#24 wasn’t nearly as bad. Two MIG-29′s flown by Russia’s Russian Swifts aerobatic team collided when one aircraft’s wingtip contacted the fuselage of the other at the 1993 Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford, Gloucestershire, England. Both pilots safely ejected and no one on the ground was hurt.
thank you
Number 38; Being able to fly a jet aircraft at such low altitude is amazing. (That is assuming it is real and not photoshopped.)
Nr 17 is at the Dutch Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten.

I live just a couple of miles away from the The flying Heritage Mudeum in Mukilteo, Wa. I get to see alot of cool old planes flying over the area, this weekend we have a B-25 coming in for a show.
MuSeum!
I have been on the Cebu Airlines and made that landing. Scary at worst. Does this mean we are going to be the happy recipients of some new “Aviation Humor” from Nick?
Keep ‘em coming.
I cannot say anything except ….Amazing…
Thanks, Nick!
is there really a runway that close to the beach in some of those pictures? i imagine some of those people must be deaf by now.
Absolutely awesome, Nick. Thanks a million. I grew up living near a civilian airport in Australia and these pics bring back happy memories.
But luckily I have no actual memory of mid-air collisions or crash landings.

Thanks Nick. I love aviation. My parents met while working for TWA so I owe my very existence to the airline industry. Just attended the Memorial Day Jones Beach Air Show this past weekend (I’ve been all 10 years). I’ll have to go through my air show pictures and send you some.
On image 16 as well as the link in my previous message with the image of the blast warning sign, you can both see the Islander club building in the background !
Kerosine on the rocks, make it a double!
I’m curious about #39

Picture 7 is RAAF F/A 18 Hornets above Parliament House, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.
Picture 30 is a RAAF F-111, we were the last country to fly them, they were retired in 2010.
