Patreon screwed up. I don’t know how and don’t really care. But they’re asking you to help fix it. I have nothing good to say. š¤¬
Anyway, this is what they said (emphasis mine):
Hi folks, as you know weāre noticing an unexpectedly high number of payment declines. Weāre sorry for the frustration this has caused and weāre doing all we can to help creators get paid by working with our payment partners and continuing to retry payments. Some of these issues were caused by external forces, and others by our efforts to create a stable and global platform as we grow and invest in our capabilities.
To ensure payment goes through this month, you can let your patrons know they can update their payment method to a new card, PayPal, or call their bank to confirm the charge as non-fraud.
If you’ve been declined, chances are good it’s Patreon’s fault.
My first inclination is to sit tight and wait. Let them try to fix it before you go through the frustration of doing their dirty work for them.
But…! If you’re in a hurry or just feel like tinkering, here are some things you can try:
Update your payment method. Here’s a link to help: https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203913769-How-do-I-update-my-payment-information-
(Remember, don’t use PayPal if you can avoid it. They censor adult content.)
If that doesn’t work, call your bank and tell them to clear the charge from Patreon.
Sorry for the disruption. Hopefully Patreon will fix it before you have to. But I’m not holding my breath.
