Picture of the Day

The Birth of Venus
Sandro Botticelli, c.1482

* This is one of the most famous paintings of all time, and was the first full-length female nude since ancient times. Because of its pagan theme, Lorenzo de’ Medici himself was forced to intercede and save it from Savonarola’s bonfires and the condemnation of the Catholic Church. (Tidbit: Notice Botticelli’s linear style, with sharp outlines around the figures.)

** Don’t waste my bandwidth with complaints or snarky comments. I happen to like this stuff, and it’s my freakin’ POD. If you don’t like fine art, just go away quietly and come back on Valentine’s Day.
